Last weekend we ripped up a mostly dead shrub and replaced it with a lovely little holly bush. In the process, the Boy managed to catch poison ivy again. *sigh* Maybe this time he'll go get steroids BEFORE he spends 2 weeks itching and bitching and being miserable. Probably not, though.

Other than that, things are going well. We spent all of Sunday last weekend preparing the various bushes and flower beds for winter and ordering mulch. The mulch has arrived and last night we briefly left the ferrets play in it. They were VERY happy. Going to have to do it again before we spread the pile out...this time with their harnesses on so I'm not so worried about them making a mad dash for the swamp.

Painting is going well. I've got 2.5 pretty boys done for YaoiCon. I'll finish the other .5 hopefully tonight or tomorrow. I need to come up with another idea though. I'd like to have 5 or 6 pictures going.

Tisa seems to really like her new barn. She's pasture mates with the barn bully who, like everyone, likes Tisa. The barn bully is very young (~3), very big and fairly aggressive to human and animal alike. Apparently she beat up every other horse she's been put out with. Tisa she's willing to groom and share hay with. The barn owners are VERY happy about this since the bully doesn't have any manners at all and Tisa seems to be teaching her some. Tisa has also really taken to jumping to the point where she'd rather do that than anything else. I'm having to put off jumping until the very end of our ride, otherwise she sulks when I make her start doing other things. Sulking horse is not fun to ride, since her "I'm pissed" trot is like trying to ride a jackhammer.

I'm getting a dose of unconsious peer pressure at this barn, though. All the other horses are wearing blankets already. Me, I'm morally opposed to putting blankets on horses when its 50 degrees. In fact, unless its bitter cold with a wind blowing OR the horse doesn't have a winter coat for whatever reason, I think its totally unnecessary. They are animals. If left unblanketed, they grown in a nice thick coat that does a better job at keeping them warm than any man made material. Also, Tisa doesn't like blankets. Everytime I've put one on her, she's waited 10 minutes and then ripped holes in it trying to get it off. Her fly sheet looks like it's been chewed on by a pit bull.

But everyone else is wearing blankets. EVERYONE. No one has said anything but I've gotten a few looks in the evenings when all of the others are getting covered up and I just put her in her stall. On the up side, I can show them her sheet with the big holes ripped in it and say "no, she really DOESN'T like them, she takes it off as soon as you turn your back" but I hate feeling like I need to justify myself. Ah well, its a silly thing to let bother me in the grand scheme of things.
