Beat the shit out of myself snowboarding last night and the ironic part? The fall that did the most damage involved getting off of the ski lift. They were being incompetent about keeping the dismount area smooth and there were all these big bumps and crevices dug into it . We're talking a foot tall mound with a 6 inch gouge beside it.
One of the dismounts, I managed to get the very front of my board dug into one of those gouges. Now normally, this would send you into a face plant. On the lift, though, only your leading foot is attached to the board. So my board dug in, the back swung up around and did a 180 ... with my right foot attached. I got pitched forward and my leg twisted in and around all in one motion. I ended up laying face down on the ground with the right foot twisted around and pointing past 180 behind me. Ripped all sorts of muscles in my right hip and put a hell of a bruise on my left knee. Its roughly the size and the shape of a large egg and its that wonderful purple black color that says its going to stick around 6 weeks and turn green before it goes away. Saw two other people do the same thing and, given the number of times the lift stopped, there had to have been more. Lazy bastards anyways.
And to add insult to injury, I fell constantly getting down the mountain on that run. I hadn't realized just how much I was relying on muscle memory to turn. All of a sudden, I'd think turn and my right hip would go "NOOooooo, I don't think I wanna ..." and I'd face plant again. I spent the rest of the evening taking it easy on the blue slopes and trying hard not to do any more damage. Before that, though, I'd been practicing my zooming. I can't keep pace with the Boy when he wants to go but I can keep up with him some, which is miles beyond where I'd been last year.
Today, I'm incredibly sore and dealing with that inherent tiredness that comes from your body trying to heal itself. I just want to curl up and sleep and NOT have to keep getting out of my chair or walking or anything. The knee hasn't finished swelling and I'm wishing I'd worn looser pants right now. The hip hasn't swollen but its throbbing to beat all, even over the advil. Don't know how either volleyball or riding is going to work this week but I'm guessing its not going to feel good either way. No more snowboarding for awhile.
