Bailed out of boarding last night because of all of the rain. Figured with the 34+ degrees and hours of pouring, the snow would be pretty yucky. Simon and Alex went, though, and said the snow was great for most of the evening. Universe shoots and scores.

Ended up spending the night helping the Boy try to get his computer up and running. New motherboard and processor, old hard drive with win98 installed on it. Can't get it to boot up correctly. We get a blank screen of death in anything except safe or straight dos mode. After fighting through the logs and shutting down drivers, we figured out that the graphics card is trying to send commands to the old CPU using instructions that the new CPU doesn't understand. I tried convincing it not to do this but failed. And frankly, hacking drivers was never my strong point. Give me something I can at least get to assembly...

I gave up and gave the Boy two options:
1) Get a windows install disk, wipe the drive and reinstall the bastard from scratch with only a skeleton system, then add each card after you get the last ones working.

2) Let me replace the graphics card with a temp one, get to the standard windows startup and then reinstall the normal graphics card, forcing the OS to think it got new hardware and maybe overwrite the current driver with one that works.

Boy choose 1, which is all well and good...if we had a windows install disk. I have NT but Boy doesn't want that. He wants 98 or 2000. So more waiting. No watcom goodness for me. Universe 2, jo 0. Man, this is a rough game.
