The things I do ...
Nov. 3rd, 2003 11:23 am...for an animal. Even an ugly toad/eel cross of a fish. Such a toad-eel lives in my saltwater aquarium. I bought him about 4 weeks ago cause I liked the way he moved and I've been wanting one for MONTHS. He's a scooter blenny and I like him. He's so ugly he's cute or something. He's a fish but he waddles about on his front fins and drags his spotted eel-like body behind him. He also has bulby top-of-the-head type eyes, which is where the toad part comes in.
Anyways, he stopped eating about 1.5 weeks ago. Now he was pretty damn chuncky to begin with, so I didn't worry about it. But now he's a skeleton and doesn't waddle around any more, he just sits there being depressed and depressing. So what do I do? I chop up a bunch of his favorite types of frozen shrimp very finely and start feeding him with an eyedropper. Yes folks, I am now force feeding a 3 inch long fish with an eyedropper. How sad is that?
But he's doing better now. Now you can just put the shrimp bits against his mouth and he eats them. Before you actually had to propel them out of the eyedropper with enough force and timing to get them into his mouth while he breathed. Still, about every 2 hours when we're home, either me or the Boy is in the fish tank with the eyedropper. The ornamental shrimp (big buggers) have figured out there's food in that dropper and keep mugging our hands for it. Nothing like having a 2 inch long shrimp scutteling over the back of your hand to give you the heebie jeebies.
Just to prove that I'm not completely pathetic, I'll point out that the eyedropper was the Boy's idea...
