It has finally become Spring up here in the great white north. More snow is on the way for Monday but it is spring. A few days of 50+ degree weather has managed to melt most of the snow around my house. I can finally see my hedges again. They've been just big white mounds since sometime around Christmas. I have crocuses (crocii?) blooming in the south facing flower bed. All the other flower beds still have a good foot of snow on them but I have hope. It even smells like spring now...green and wet and wonderful.
Which brings me to the next part of my post.
My basement.
My basement also smells green and wet and not so wonderful. And it goes "sploosh" when you rocket down the steps at 6 in the morning trying to find a clean pair of socks. Yes, sploosh. Apparently having two days of steady hard rain and a foot of snow melting has raised the local water table up to the level of my basement. Pumping it dry is an exercise in futility, since the water is seeping up through the floor. We pump it out into the swamp, it seeps right back in cause the swamp is at floor level right. *sigh* Its not too bad, only an inch or so deep at the worst spots. Unfortunately, they are calling for two more days of heavy rain this weekend. Guess everything has to get moved UP.
Finally, a Tisa update. Last night I only had to use one 4x4 bandage to cover the entire open section of the wound. Previously, I've been using two, laid end to end. So now she's down to only a 4 inch scrape instead of the original ~7 inches. She wasn't feeling too hot though. Spring shots were given on Wednesday and all the horses are down. Everyone got west nile immunizations this year. That particular shot tends to give flu like symptoms for a few days. Normally I don't bother but the disease showed up down the road. Better safe than sorry. My normal prancing pony who runs over to greet me when I open the door was just standing around being miserable, head down, dopey and sore. She should be better tonight, though, and its better than trying to fight west nile.
