Spent much of Friday evening down at Tufts getting Midori checked over and going over Tira's test results. Tira, of course, was her nightmarish self. When the tech first reached for her, I said "she bites" and the tech answered by holding up a banadaged finger and saying "I know. I've been here all week". When they went to get Midori out of her carrier, they were understandably hesitant but Midori was her usual sweet self. At one point, the doctor was holding her up to look at her eyes and teeth and got licked on the end of the nose. He then threatened to keep her for himself. None of them could believe that those two came from the same breeder and had the exact same upbringing. Most of them assumed Tira was a rescue of some sort but, no, she's just living proof that every nasty animal doesn't necessarily have abuse and trajedy in their pasts. Some of them are just cantankerous all on their own. Anyways, both are doing well, Tira's getting weaned off of the prednisone and is stealing socks with her usual vigor.

Much of the weekend itself was eaten up by shopping for a fireplace insert. We need to replace the door on our fireplace and we've found out that you can basically put a convection insert in for about twice what a new door would cost. This would make our fireplace a valid heatsource instead of just a pretty decoration that eats wood. We're hoping to get one put in sometime in January. [profile] georgejas, [personal profile] dgr, think [personal profile] dgr's mom's fireplace. It'll be nice to have something to heat the house with when the electricity dies, which it does about once a week in the winter.

Speaking of fireplaces, we burned our last night for about 6 hours. We ended up cooking potatoes in the coals for dinner, which is the BEST way to bake potatoes. The Boy sat around reading, I sat around drawing. It was a perfect ending to a good weekend.

Unfortunately, I managed to knock over a brand new bottle of brown acrylic ink all over the floor. Thank god it was acrylic ink and not india ink. Acrylic comes up again as long as you don't let it dry. India ink is the most permanent stuff in the world ... where it falls, there it stays. Its all okay, though. The ink came out of the carpet and I'm not all that upset for spilling most of new bottle. I really didn't like how it acted in the nibs. It basically had the consistancy of water and wanted to come streaming out of the nib well VERY fast. It also wanted to feather out once it got to the paper. Since the paper is some pretty serious vellum that I've done 99% of my ink work on with no problem, I'm blaming the ink. On the down side, I probably won't finish the picture I started with it. I was getting pretty frustrated with it anyways, since I kept having to deal with unexpected splotches. The entire image was much more solid and inked in than I wanted due to the ink wanting to zoom everywhere. I also picked up some watercolor canvas this weekend ... curiousity at work. I was tempted to get some clayboard too but that stuff's even more expensive than watercolor canvas.

The swamp was lovely this morning, all snow covered and white. More snow coming in tonight. I wonder how soon the slopes open up. I feel the need to get in touch with my inner snowboarder.

Art work for sale can be found on my Shopping Page. Email me at flasher@joflasher.com for prices*.

Prints for sale are also listed on that page. Payment can be made either by check, money order or paypal to flasher@joflasher.com. Shipping and handling is $3.00 per order. I normally send prints out priority mail so its not too late to give art for Christmas. I will ship directly to someone else's home. I'll even spiffy up the packaging job if you want it to look more gift-like. If you want them double matted and ready to frame, add in $5.00 per print. I don't offer this on my web page but I'll do it for friends. Matting is time consuming, even if you got a Boy willing to help cut mats.

Please please PLEASE make sure you give me a shipping address. Don't make me chase you down to find out where to send the silly things. I don't have a net connection at home, which seriously delays the mailing if I don't get all the shipping info in the first round.

And for my last bit of blatant marketing, you can get t-shirts, mouse pads and all sorts of wonderful goodies showcasing my art at my artist page over at Ellen Million Graphics. Ellen makes good stuff and represents LOTS of wonderful artists. Don't wait too long in ordering from her, though. She is mailing stuff from Alaska.

-------------------------------------
* Be warned, I have three shows worth of originals out right now and I don't always know when something sells until everything gets mailed home. I try to keep the originals list up to date. I do not accept payment unless I'm sure I still have the painting. Some of the originals might be iffy on getting there before the 25th, depending when the current shows mail stuff back to me.

Now I need to paint a godlike [personal profile] dgr overseeing a swarm of unbaptized baby ninjas building a fortress in the freshly renovated Limbo.

Sometimes, zephyr is the only thing that keeps me sane during the day....
