joflasher: (thrrpppttt!)
So my shoes tried to kill me this morning. I was doing my standard bolt down the stairs in the parking garage and one of my clogs just went FLYING off, sending me sprawling down the last couple steps to the next landing. So now I've got a seriously twisted ankle, a bruised foot and a pair of clogs snickering at me. Bastard things anyways.

Other than that, I've been rearranging my evening life pretty seriously. I've added another night of riding into the mix and move my other nights around to even it out across the week. I really want to get out to a couple events this year and we need more work to get there. Tisa is doing wonderful. I'm comfortable enough now to canter her without having someone watch that we're on the right lead front and back. She's settling into the new schedule pretty well, though the first week she gave me weird looks when I showed up. She's also shedding, so now everything I own is covered in a mix of horse, cat, and ferret fuzz.

I've dropped the Billerica pickup volleyball and replaced it with the Boston Volleyball Skill & Drills practice. Its a coached practice with the option of playing in some of the local tourneyments. A lot more serious play but it has a couple of down sides. One, they break it up by sexes so I'm back on a women's height net. While not necessarily bad, I've been playing co-ed on men's height since highschool. The short net is freaking me out a little but I'm sure I'll get use to it.

Two, the coach insists that everyone serve overhand. Now I can serve overhand and I'm middling good at it. Surprisingly, I'm better than a lot of the class. Mine go over and in and I can aim along straight lines. No finesse, no floating but I can get it done. However, I'm good at underhand serves and I have no intention of seriously changing my style at this late of date. I know why she has that policy ... most underhand servers just lollypop the ball over and she's trying to make our team competitive. I am not a lollypopper and I don't know how to prove that to her. If she does let me underhand, she's going to get the one or two other girls who just can't serve overhand asking to do the same. I'd really like to be running the serving drills with a serve I'll actually use. I'm paying for this practice and I want to get the most I can out of it. I also don't want to cause the coaches problems. Not really sure what to do here.

After last weeks practice was over, a bunch of the guys stayed around to play triples and quads and I hopped in. I ran 8 points on them my first round of serving. I got a "holy fuck, floater!" call from one of them, which made me happy for most of the week. Unfortunately, the coaches didn't stick around to watch.
