Everyone tells stories ... stories to their friends, to their co-workers, to their spouses, to themselves. Stories let people know who we are and where we come from.

Now I don't have either the time or the energy to take part of NaNoWriMo for real. I have decent handful of commissions to finish before the New Year, a slightly smaller handful of conventions to get art mailed to, a HUGE work demo coming up in early December and, oh yeah, I've been in Albuquerque since Sunday. That doesn't mean I don't have the time to tell myself stories, though.

People, I have an hour long commute and NPR only has half an hour's worth of stuff before they start repeating. Stories are what keep me becoming the poster child for Road Rage America. After thinking about NaNoWriMo tonight, I realized that I have four, possibly five, well fleshed out and solid worlds built that I wind stories through every morning while I'm stuck in the parking lot that is I95 South. In two of those worlds, I have characters and plots that I revisit over and over again, constantly tweaking and refining. Tonight, I started writing the easier one down. I figure with as much time as I spend in hotels and on airplanes, I could probably get this one finished fairly quickly. Its not like I can really take my watercolor tubes on the plane to paint anymore.

I'm a little worried that by pinning it down on a page, I'll lose some of the fluidity that makes this world so fun. We'll see. The other "solid" world is a much grittier place, a place where the robots I wish we were building are interfaced with the soldiers I hope we never figure out how to create. I'm not sure if I'm up to trying hard sci-fi any time soon but boy, do I want those toys. Yes, I'm a geek and I'd LOVE to a bio-interface to my computer or my car, although given how my car's been acting, that might be like having a mechanical flu.

I'll probably post bits and pieces here eventually. No use having a story written down if no one ever reads it...
