Yay, I have boots. And bindings. And goggles. And I got all three for less than I expected to pay for boots alone. The local Underground was having a huge clearance sale where they set up tents in the parking lot and trucked in stuff from all their stores' basements. All of it was brand new but either previous years' models or had damaged packaging. They also put the boots into big bins, so it wasn't easy to find a particular size or style.

I got $200 Salomon boots from 2 years ago for $60, this year's $160 Burton freestyle bindings for $30, and $50 goggles for $30. And all of it was women specific gear, so I don't have to take after it with scissors or a knife to make it fit. I'm so happy.

Unfortunately, I still need a board and a helmet. They had some women's boards for sale from last year but they were either HUGE or tiny. But then, they didn't have very many medium women's boards in the actual store, either. My budget for the board has gone up, though, since I expected to spend a couple hundred dollars on boots and bindings. I wasn't even planning on goggles this year. Yay.

Still no Joe. I think he might be gone for good this time. *sniff*

Saturday Boy and I took S and A up to the farm with us. A has been interested in taking riding lessons for the last year or so but hasn't yet. She was afraid to plop down money for it when she had never ever ever been on a horse before. Not even a children's pony ride. And she doesn't handle fear well and thought she might freak while sitting on to of a 1200 lb. animal. Anyway, I got the owner's permission and put her up on Majic. No bridle, me leading them around with a halter. A had a blast. Guess its true, every little girl just wants a pony. I don't think I've ever seen her grin that much. All they did was walk and a little tiny bit of trot with me trying to explain how posting works. Should'a used a western saddle. A was thrilled, though, and actually got about 4 steps of posting correctly by the end. Afterwards, I hopped on Majic, still just halter and lead rope, and showed off a bit. Hey, I had to make her work a little, otherwise she'd be nutso horse on Wednesday.

We then got Kavort out and spent a good 20 minutes getting his tack on. I've come to the conclusion that most of his "fear" is an act. I mean, he was completely wigging out about having the saddle put on, even though we were going very slowly, yet he had no problems what so ever about having it taken off and swung around him. Faker. He's been shown in saddleseat for at least 4 years, he knows what the hell a saddle is. Next time I'm going to put him in crossties and not coddle him about it.

I rode him in the ring. Got bored. Took him out to the field beside the house. He shied at the boulders (eek, its a rock!) but other than that was pretty good. I couldn't get him to walk back into the riding ring...he was doing his fear act about the gate but was trying to go though the exact same type of gate to get back to the barn. I don't think so. I think he's realized that acting "afraid" will get him out of work. He wasn't even tensing up, just refusing to go through the gate and shying from it. Wednesday, I'm going to tack him up and walk him out to the meadow while Boy rides Majic. He's got pretty good ground manners, so it shouldn't go too badly. If he doesn't kill either of us, I'll try riding him out there next weekend. I really hate giving up Majic but I would feel like shit if the Boy got hurt riding Kavort. Time to hunt out a riding crop and maybe some body armor.

Sounds like you may need that helmet you want for riding as well as snowboarding. :)

heh
I have a helmet for riding.
I bought it because the MIT Equestrian team makes you wear one during practice.
It has a hoof print in it.
I am a firm believer of headgear, thanks to Kavort.
