Says I'm like a cat
the kind of cat that you just can't pick up
and throw into your lap
no, The kind that doesn't mind being held
when it was her idea
yeah the kind that feels what she decides to feel
when she's good and ready to feel it.

Went up the farm on Sunday. Majic managed to snag her halter on a nail and now has about 1/2 of her left cheek ripped open. Poor old girl. At least its winter, so there are no flies to bother it.

Got to meet the new leasers. One woman and her boyfriend are working with Apache and Tisa. Another woman is working with Sage. Not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, she's able to get up there everyday and it'd do him good to get worked that much. On the other, she gives treats constantly and lets him walk all over her. I'm okay with treats now and again but getting mugged by 1200lbs of pushy, biting horse just isn't my idea of a good time. I had him mostly broken of that. Oh well.

I took Kavort out for a walk with his tack on. It was too icy to do any riding but he gets really worked about just having the saddle on. I thought it'd do some good to tack him up, walk him around and take it off. Trying to get him past the idea that tack == show == crazy horse.

The Brick is up for her oil change and general going over. I need to remember to tell the garage to re-align the front end. She drifts off to the left and its getting annoying. It hasn't gotten worse, my patience with it has just disappeared. Other than that, I really like my Silver Brick. Its big and zoomy and gets me where I want to go with minimal fuss. What else could I ask for.

Climbing on Saturday. I got up my first feature climb. Features at the gym are either less than finger width protrusions made out of concrete or highly textured flat patches. You can usually get the tip of your foot onto the protusions and you can stick to the sticky textured patches if you can get your weight right and apply enough pressure. There is one or two wall at the gym that have lots of features built into them and they tend to be covered with climbs that involve minimum actual holds. Case in point, the one 5.10 on the wall I was on had 2 holds. Counted them on the way up. All the rest was stemming off of sticky patches and using a crack in the wall.

The one I did had one hand hold, the crack and either a protrusion or a pair of sticky patches at any given time. It wasn't too bad except for the fact that sticky patches require a LOT of pressure to secure you...as soon as you stop apply pressure to, say, move your foot higher up the wall, down you come. Still, I got the hang of it and learned to push on a sticky patch from any other body part, including my head.

Doctor said "Jo, you've gained X weight in the two years I've been seeing you. Its not a problem yet but, if you keep it up, it will be in another 5 years"
I said "Doc, I'm active, I don't eat a lot of shit. I rarely have soda or candy. My only real weaknesses are mashed potatoes and dry red wine. What am I doing wrong here?"
Doc said "We've gone over what you eat and I don't see anything wrong with it. I know you ride and climb and swim and stuff. How about you try cutting the amount you eat down. Cut your servings in half and see what happens."

What happened was I lost 5lbs in about a week and a half. I'm still eating what I normally do, though I've cut down on the pasta. I'm just now eating less of it. It seems to be working. Wish me luck.

Or at least I should have traveled alone. I went down to Skipton's on Saturday because it was time to add another fish to the salt water tank. The Boy went with me and sulked about the entire time. He doesn't like crowded places and I had to wait a good 20 minutes before someone would wait on me. They weren't ignoring me, they were just very busy and they are very good at helping people. Next time I go, its either going to be right at opening on a weekend or the Boy stays home. I hate having my joy of something diminished because he wants to come with me and then hates being there, especially when he KNOWS its going to be crowded and busy.

Anyways, I now have a royal gramma and a giant feather duster added in with my pair of blue damsels and B.U.C (Big Ugly Clam). The gramma promptly took over the damsels' spawning cave, which did have eggs in it, ate the eggs and has been fighting it out with the female damsel ever since. I'm hoping it settles down soon. I picked out the biggest gramma the store had because damsels are known to be vicious territorial little bastards. I figured I'd get a bigger fish and they'd be more inclined to leave him alone. What I didn't count on was that the gramma can open its mouth bigger than its head. No, really, it can unhinge its mouth just like a snake. The smaller of the two damsels could probably fit inside of it. And its a vicious territorial bastard too. At least it can't swim very fast with its mouth open. Otherwise I would worry about the survival chances of the other fish...

I'm getting stir crazy. The Boy and I have been stuck in the house for DAYS together since its too cold to go snowboarding and we had monday off. I'm about ready to call a shopping trip to the mall just to get out by myself for a little while. The Boy hates the mall and will undoubtably stay home.

The house doesn't seem to be taking the cold snap too well. I keep getting frozen sitting around but I know the furnace is on and heat is coming out. I guess we should have insulated more of the windows or something. I cringe to think what our heating bill is going to be like this month.
