yet more lessons learned
Feb. 20th, 2003 01:16 pmThis week's snowboarding lesson: Learn to turn before you attempt to jump. That 2+ feet of snow made for wonderful snowboarding conditions but but BUT...they didn't groom the mountain and there were all these big 4 ft wide by 3 ft tall mounds of snow that the skiers had pushed up, just waiting to jump up and thwack me.
Boy told me to steer around them but I'm not that good at turning exactly where I want to. They were so close together that you had to know exactly where you were going to turn AND actually make the turn on the spot. Otherwise, the mounds would catch your toe edge and *sploot*, there you go. Not going around them meant going over them. Which meant jumping. Jumping isn't that bad. Landing, ooooh, landing's tricky. I was going to fall, one way or another. I figured, might as well make it a good one. You get the most spetacular wipeouts if you put a bit of air under you. I came up after one fall with my entire face plastered over with snow. Once I had dug my eyes out, I realized I was less than a foot from taking out a skier who was standing there with the most wonderful, horrified expression on his face. Oh, I'm off the beginner slopes now and falling on the intermediates. Yay, progress.
Not much else happening. D&D tonight, going to the theatre tomorrow with
shoebox_bird. Hey, I can dress up and be girly for once. That'll be a change.
