drool marks on the brocade
Apr. 21st, 2003 11:11 amSo I've been lusting after this one type/pattern of fabric for months now. Gorgeous stuff, a heavy satin weight silk brocade of black and deep wine red roses. The roses are so dark that they all but disappear until the light hits them. It came out last fall sometime and I instantly wanted it. I've only ever seen it in one store and everytime I go there, I run my hands over the bolt and whimper. Whimper because it is insanely insanely expensive.
I would love to have a complete outfit out of it but I would settle for a new corset. Being me, though, I kept talking myself out of buying it because I could buy an already built corset for the price of the 2 yards of fabric alone. But I kept planning anyways, to the point of finding a place that sells spring steel stays (plastic boning is for whimps) and buying some satin in the same shade as the roses for lining and casings.
Friday evening, on my way up to
pancua's for a Stitch & Bitch, I stopped at the store for more quill tape and, low and behold, there was 1 and 7/8 yards of the stuff in the remnants bin. More than enough for a new corset. Everything in that bin is $3 a yard. I was estatic. I was thrilled. I had to show everyone at the Stitch & Bitch my lovely new material. You'd think I'd woven it myself, the way I was acting. Shameful, really.
The store also had more of the wine satin in the remnants bin. Seems someone was planning to make prom dress out of the stuff and then returned it for some reason. Their loss, my gain. Soon, dearies, I will have a gorgeous new corset and maybe a matching skirt to go clubbing in.
Unfortunately, I've never used this corset pattern before, so I have to make a dummy one first and figure out where the pattern doesn't fit me. Patterns never are sized like they say they are. Also have to get my serger fixed now. I have a mission and it requires a well finished edge, dammit.
