Its been raining off and on for the last week. And I couldn't be happier. I like the rain. I love how it smells, I like how it feels, I like the mood it puts me into when I wake up and hear it hitting the window beside my bed. I like how it makes me want to sit and draw all day with an old blanket tucked around me. Somehow rainy days always feel more relaxed, less hectic, even if I'm at work in my windowless office. It always strikes me as odd when people complain about the rain. Back in Pittsburgh, I used to go out walking in it whenever I could. Came home drenched more times than I could count but I almost always came home in a better mood.

I think I'm like this because I grew up with in a house with a tin roof. Nothing sounds as cool as rain on a tin roof as you are falling asleep. Just this steady, pattery sound. We had these big hickory trees that wrapped up over the house and the rain would come down through their leaves and hit the roof during the summer storms. I don't think I'll ever sleep like that again. Note: Not all things sound great when striking a tin roof. Branches, hickory nuts and deranged squirrels all fall into this other category. Rain is like comfort food for me. The sound of it reminds me of home.

Of course, nothing is as big of a turn on as a HUGE thunder storm. The type where you can feel the house shake from the thunder and the lightning is lighting up the sky like day. If a storm like that is rolling in, don't bother calling. I've already got plans for the evening.
