I've tried to make deliberately cute paintings a couple times. Haven't managed to finish one yet.

Sell out that I am, I decided after Arisia that I needed an extremely cute picture to round out my panel. Cute stuff was selling...pretty women were not.

Sketching this one was easy...it took about an hour to find kitten photos and another hour to draw everything out and get things scanned in and sized right for the tablet I wanted to use. Painting it took about 3 weeks :( I just couldn't stay enthused about it.

To make matters worse, I had to keep fighting with the urge to add a dead bird minus its flight feathers off to the one side hidden under some of the leaves. I even sketched it out. Josh pointed out that showing the bird that the feathers were pulled from would take the painting from digustingly cute to just digusting and that would defeat the whole purpose...

well, the dead bird that must be just off-screen was the first thing that popped into my head, so i guess cuteness is in the eye of the beholder...
