bad jo, no donut

joflasherNow I remember why I never buy new books to read anymore. Its because I gorge on them when I do. Saturday I went off to Barnes & Noble and used up the gift card starherd and tg2k got me for Christmas.
I went looking for a do-it-yourself small business book, I came home with Peter David's Woad to Wuin and Charles deLint's Onion Girl. I started reading at about 5 o'clock in the afternoon. At 1 in the morning, I finished Onion Girl. I spent about an hour making dinner and another hour sorting photos in beween to give my eyes a break. So in a period of about 6 hours, I read 506 pages, give or take a few for title and such. That's 84 pages an hour, so I was at full cruising speed. And I didn't stop, NOOOoooo, as soon as I got up on Sunday, I started in on Woad to Wuin and now its all gone too. I was so excited to have something new to read and now I don't. I have no self restraint where books are concerned. *sigh* Worse than mashed potatoes, really.
Also, I experienced something very odd while reading Onion Girl. One of the characters was named Jolene. Not my name but close enough for it to be a common mispelling. In fact, its more common for me to get "Jolene" than "Joleen" from people who don't KNOW me, so its a name I respond to. Anyways, I kept getting this weird brain zolt everytime Jolene showed up in the story. My brain kept processing it as me. I kept thinking "why the hell did I do that?" Now all you Brians and Bens and Kathys and Leslies out there are laughing your asses off because you undoubtably got over this "seeing yourself in print" thing long ago. I've never read anything with my name in it that wasn't refering to me except a library fine I got once by mistake (the fine was supposed to go to a Joelene Sealhamer instead). My brain didn't know how to deal with it. Very weird. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind being an 8ft bear woman....
