I blame the Navy
Apr. 20th, 2004 02:46 pmfor me actually having to work Patriots Day. See, most of New England got yesterday off work in order to honor those decades dead patriots but not us. It seems back in the early 90's the Navy pitched a hissy fit because Draper, a government contractor, got more holidays than they did. Draper employees pissed a hissy right back because, dammit, whos gonna accept loosing a holiday quietly? To keep everyone happy, Draper adopted the policy of only recognising the same holidays as the federal government but they allowed themselves some leeway as to the number of days.
What effect did this have on us? We don't get Patriots Day off any more but we have an extra floating day around the 4th or Christmas. We still have one more day off than the Navy, it is just timed differently.
While most of Boston was off watching the Marathon, I was in my office wishing I was outside in the BEEEeeautiful warm day. Oh well.
