joflasherDidn't get much sleep last night. Tira was sick. She kept having really loud, dry coughing spasms every 3 hours or so. I tried the standard hairball treatment but it didn't seem to help. Poor little rat. It sucks when you have an animal sick and there's nothing you can do but sit there and watch.
Besides the cough, though, she seems okay. She's eating and drinking and attacking feet with her normal vigor. I haven't heard her coughing outside of the cage, so chances are she's got something in there that she's snacking/choking on. Tonight, I'll rip it apart and find out. Its about time for that thing to be disinfected again anyways.
I hope she didn't eat anything she shouldn't have but you never know with that one. I've caught her munching on everything from bars of soap to fleece scraps. I can't seem to predict what will strike her fancy as "edible". Between her wanting to chew on things and being able to open drawers and Midori opening zippers and screw top caps, its damn near impossible to ferret proof the house. We keep all the truely noxious stuff in the one cupboard they haven't figured out. That still doesn't do much good. All of a sudden, something they've ignored for months will become the "taste of the day" and off it goes.
