getting out of my hair
May. 26th, 2004 04:15 pmI think it may be time to lop off my hair again.
With all the stress I've been dealing with the last few months, I've really done a number on it. You see, I have a nervous habit of breaking my hair off. I don't know where I got it from or when it showed up. Sometime in college, I think. I just start running my fingers, feeling individual strands, and once I find one that doesn't "feel" right, bumpy or too thick or whatever, I break it off and play with it. A bad stress day will cost me a dozen or so hairs. Doesn't sound too bad ... until you muliply it by a few months worth of bad days. Now the top of my head is almost all 4 inches long and the bottom is down to the middle of my back.
My senior year of college was pretty bad...lots of "must pass this class" combined with "must find job" and "Boy on other side of the country". I had a 3 inch tall mohawk thing going on thanks to all the hair pulling. Around Christmas that year I had my sister-in-law cut it to about an inch long all over. It looked cute...as long as I kept getting it trimmed. It looked like hell as it grew in but that's a different story.
If I chop it all off again, then it'll be too short to play with. From past results, I can expect it to take about 4 years for the breaking pattern to show up again. It might be time.
