I was talking to my Mother the other day about the upcoming holidays and she asked, since I was driving in, whether I'd be taking some of my "stuff" back with me. Yes, I still have "stuff" at my parents and I haven't lived there in over 8 years. What?!?!

In particular, she wanted to know whether I'd be bringing the antique hutch/pie cupboard she gave me back and if I wanted my guns and compound bow yet. If it fits in my car, the cupboard is coming home with me. The bow I think I'm going to give to my cousin. He's been using it the past 4 years and if I decide to get back into archery, I want a sweet little ultra-light instead of my 4 ft. tall 15+ year old compound.

The guns... I don't know. I have 3 of them, a double shot 410/22mag over and under, a 33 that was my father's and an antique rifle. I am also supposed to "get" my step-dad's 6mm when he decides he wants a new deer rifle because I LOVE that gun and I hunted with it for years. I like my guns. I'd like to have them around (assuming I can figure out a place to put them that is both safe and won't destroy their finishes).

Problem is, I'm up in ubber liberal Mass, where guns are the instrument of the devil and Republicans. Hunting is at best a sorry necessity and at worst, animal cruelity and I really don't have time to do it anyways. I don't see the point of bringing them home if they are just going to get locked up in a closet and never used. At my parent's, at least my cousins borrow them from time to time.

It seems a shame to have them and not use them.

Of course, my father's gun doesn't get used now anyways. They say its outt of respect for me and people are afraid they'll break it. I think its just because the damn thing kicks like a mule no matter how you hold it down.

I'm sure that, if your mom really wants them out of the house and taking them to Mass. is unfeasable, my dad would happily make room for them. They wouldn't get as much use, but I know he'd at least take them to the rifle range for walks. :-)

You know, simple rifles ought not be too difficult to possess in MA. According to http://www.boltonpd.org/NewFiles/gunlawFAQ.html you ought to be able to get a simple FID card to cover the rifles. Are any of them more than 5 shot capacity? Unless they are, or you plan to have handguns as well, you won't need to get the class B license, which should make things much easier.

As far as storage goes, I was able to pick up an excellent refrigerator-sized used gun safe (delivered) for under ~800. I imagine that a glance through the yellow pages or bulletin boards at local shooting ranges in your area could put you in touch with similar options.
