Two new paintings are up. I'm not really happy with either.

Okay, this one has been *this* close to be destroyed, abandoned or just exiled under the bed for the last month but it never quite crosses the line. I don't like the dress, the colors, the border, the face. I was trying for hispanic features and got ... what did I get? I'm not quite sure. My color sense lied to me and told me purple would be a good shadow color for darker skin when really I needed to think more mahogany red. She looks like she's half suffocated with all those blue/purple tones running around.

I also had some new jars of metalic acrylic ink and, once I gave up on actually liking this piece, it became a learning process. You remember Growth , don't you? Well, she's back and its still not pretty. So the original has glitz and shine which my scanner turned to brown *blech*. Thanks, scanner, it didn't need the help.

Ah well, I'm sending it out to LosCon anyways. I just don't have the choice at this point unless my ICON stuff magically made it home today AND I have at least one small original unsold.

This one I like. Its bright and glowing and cadmium red and yellow rock my socks. This picture makes me warm just by being in the same room with it. If it comes home from LosCon, it may become a Keeper since I ALWAYS need warming agents in my art room. Hours sitting still + bad circulation = freezing cold Jo.

The web version is actually LESS saturated than the original. Larger too, since the original is tiny. Makes it easier to see all the places I messed up, that's for sure. I still love this piece ... soley for that window.

I guess one out of two ain't bad.

dude, GREAT job with the stole in the second one.

i think the first one is good too, and i bet you'll sell it, whether you like it or not. leaves outside of the border is awesome. it looks like it wants to be a book cover.

but as far as both of these are concerned, i like the toad pencil sketch better than either, because i can tell you're on the other side of the painting - these, it's not clear that jo was painting, except for the leaves. :-)

anyway, that's your friend talking, not your customers.

we've painted two walls in the bedroom a red called Cherry Cobbler.
which is somehow a cool enough red to be not-obnoxious as a room color, and a warm enough red to make me feel like it's warming the room.
you should come see it.

First picture: she doesn't look half-dead to me, just a bit cold.
Which is to be expected, given the dress she's wearing in what is undoubtedly
a good autumney wind. I still adore the Real Horse Colored unicorns, too.

Second picture: You've every right to be happy with this one - that's a great glowy window.
I adore you for doing pointy ears with shorter hair, which I almost never see,
particularly not on the non-swordswomen-dressed. Good short hair style, too. :-D
And the half-hidden leafiness of the dress tickles me too.

you can tell there's a theme going on here, can't you. Leaves EVERYWHERE. Luckily, I don't have the patience for snowflakes.

Now I want to see you do snowflakes. XD

...I need to hit you up for critter prints if you still have any.
Todd's office needs decorating.

There are critter prints. Actually, I haven't been pushing them that hard since I kind'a want them for conventions. So I haven't been ebaying them or putting them up on my internet galleries. I figure I'll do the rounds with them and then really internet push the ones left after a year or so.

Any ideas which ones you want? Do you want them already matted and ready to pop into a frame or will you take care of doing that yourself? Let me know what you want and when you want it and I'll shuffle them along.

Let's see... I'm going to say I want already matted,
because I don't have a mat cutter, so my mats always end up looking
like the ones I did in high school, with slightly wobbly lines and
catches where the finish tears away (yaaay exacto knife).
(If it helps, Todd's office is light limey green with giant lily-of-the-valleys in the corners
and lightning bugs with glow in the dark bits here and there.
We keep debating as to whether or not we're going to repaint it.)

Anyway. He says he wants all of them, but I've a minimal budget, so...
how about LED bugs and Evolution for now. :-)

That works. I tend to mat to match the paintings and do up a large number of mats at once. Evolution has (I think) a brown and gold mat combination and LEDBugs has dark maroon outer with dark blue inner. They are both matted to 10x20 and you should be able to find frames that size at any Michael's or general craft store.

The day I sold my first $100+ painting, I went out and bought an industrial strength mat cutter. It was so worth it. Those little hand cutters are made specifically to annoy.

Don't worry, his birthday just passed us and I didn't send him anything at the time, so I think I owe him one :P
