Two new paintings are up. I'm not really happy with either.

Okay, this one has been *this* close to be destroyed, abandoned or just exiled under the bed for the last month but it never quite crosses the line. I don't like the dress, the colors, the border, the face. I was trying for hispanic features and got ... what did I get? I'm not quite sure. My color sense lied to me and told me purple would be a good shadow color for darker skin when really I needed to think more mahogany red. She looks like she's half suffocated with all those blue/purple tones running around.

I also had some new jars of metalic acrylic ink and, once I gave up on actually liking this piece, it became a learning process. You remember Growth , don't you? Well, she's back and its still not pretty. So the original has glitz and shine which my scanner turned to brown *blech*. Thanks, scanner, it didn't need the help.

Ah well, I'm sending it out to LosCon anyways. I just don't have the choice at this point unless my ICON stuff magically made it home today AND I have at least one small original unsold.

This one I like. Its bright and glowing and cadmium red and yellow rock my socks. This picture makes me warm just by being in the same room with it. If it comes home from LosCon, it may become a Keeper since I ALWAYS need warming agents in my art room. Hours sitting still + bad circulation = freezing cold Jo.

The web version is actually LESS saturated than the original. Larger too, since the original is tiny. Makes it easier to see all the places I messed up, that's for sure. I still love this piece ... soley for that window.

I guess one out of two ain't bad.

That works. I tend to mat to match the paintings and do up a large number of mats at once. Evolution has (I think) a brown and gold mat combination and LEDBugs has dark maroon outer with dark blue inner. They are both matted to 10x20 and you should be able to find frames that size at any Michael's or general craft store.

The day I sold my first $100+ painting, I went out and bought an industrial strength mat cutter. It was so worth it. Those little hand cutters are made specifically to annoy.

Don't worry, his birthday just passed us and I didn't send him anything at the time, so I think I owe him one :P
