Gods, look how empty this journal is. I blame work. In order to "take on leadership responsibilities" and "increase my name recognition* in the company", I took on the role of software task leader for a project. This may have been a mistake. Now don't get me wrong, its an interesting project and it might end with us all being sued** but its a pretty big time suck with a lot of responsibilities. Long days, working from home, that sort of thing. Its also making me call in just about every favor I'm owed from the last 7 years of being in this company. So my livejournal time is pretty non-existant at the moment.

I did, however, go on vacation last week. My brother, his wife, the Boy and I headed west to Yellowstone and northern Idaho. Much fun was had. I'll post pictures someday. Nothing stops traffic like a bison jam in the middle of the highway. I even got my brother up on a horse ... I don't think he's sat on a horse since the day my Dad gave in and let him buy a motocycle.

Of course, while I was away, one of the ferrets came down ill. Midori had a heart attack while at the boarding kennel and had to be rushed down to Tufts for emergency treatment. She's stable now but they're measuring the time in days now instead of the months estimate they gave me when we first found out that she had a heart condition. She's at home and comfortable and DOES NOT LIKE her medicine and lets me know by spitting it back at me every morning. That's pretty good for an ancient old rat like her.

This was supposed to be a watercolor underpaintinging for an acrylic piece but the Boy liked it so much, I just called it done and left it as it is. Its a LOT more free form and "artsy" than I normally do but then again, it was just supposed to be an underpainting.

* which is bull because I have yet to meet someone here at work who hadn't at least HEARD of my last name. Name recognition I got. Face recognition ... not so much.

** which makes it that much more interesting.

I like the painting in that form too. The b/w really works; might look cluttered with color, maybe... ^_^

I'm tempted to try printing it out on watercolor paper, sealing it and painting it acrylics anyways. It was supposed to be an exercise piece for me to work on skin tones in acrylic but the Boy is scary good at predicting pieces that will sell when sent out. Pieces I think will go ... eh, if its a dragon or frog, I'm normally okay. Otherwise, my picks normally hang around a few months/years.

DUDE
can you do something where you just make her eyes, lips, and that thing around her neck colored, and leave the rest black and white???? PLEASE?

(and maybe the crow's eyes too?)

Probably. I have to see how my printer handles watercolor paper going through it. Of course, the crow's eyes are black anyways and it really was painted in blue tone, not true black & white.
