Animals are coming back all over- we have had black bear and lynx sightings in the last few years, and wild turkeys are everywhere higher up.

Don't get them started up here on the mountain lions. There are numerous reports all over of them, one was shot a few years back and the game wardens still refuse to admit they are around.

Couldn't they just have used anesthetic darts, captured him and released later somewhere safe? :-(

The guy who shot it didn't realize it was a wolf. After all, wolves don't live in MA and haven't for a hundred years. He figured it was a coy-dog (which we have a big problem with). They didn't find out it was a wolf for sure until the DNA tests came back.
