joflasherSo work has been kicking my ass of late. On Friday, I left at a little after 1:00 PM ... which gave me a little over 60 hours for the week. I can't remember the last weekend I had completely off.
When my schedule gets hectic like that, I just can't deal with nice structured painting. I'm too burnt to stay within the lines.
Hence, this.
Mother of Dragons
I sketched out and masked off the woman. Then I threw paint around until shapes started to appear on the clayboard. When I really didn't like the first attempt, I took it down stairs to the power sprayer in the sink and sprayed everything back off of it and started over again. I poured big puddles of water onto the surface and floated pigment in it. I scrapped bits off with a razor blade. Finally, I broke out my airbrush and made little glowy highlights on the stars and, incidentally, the cats. Our cats have never seen the airbrush before.
Basically, I made a mess and had fun and ended up with something that is kind of neat. Gods, does clayboard put up with a lot.
This is mostly watercolor with a bit of acrylic here and there. The black is something called process ink. It says it is an opaque watercolor but it is REALLY true black. No blue or red tint what so ever. It is thick and shiny, almost jelly like when compared to normal tube watercolors and comes in a little round jar. I think I need to play with it some more.
