After hearing rumors of immense crowds that scared away [profile] shoebox_bird and her boy, we decided to bike in to the airshow at Hanscom base on Sunday. We packed our bikes in the back of the ZOooomobile and drove to a shopping center about a mile from the base. From there, we were able to ride into the base at normal biking speeds, ignoring all the cars that were making a parking lot out of the main road in. Getting out was slow but still faster than any of the cars. Good deal.

I got my first sunburn of the season. It started on Saturday when we were up at the farm (no sunscreen on, silly girl) and finished on Sunday, where wandering thunderstorms washed the sunscreen all away. A national guard type person came up to me a few hours after the storm and gave me little packets of sunscreen, saying that I was doing a good impression of a lobster. It was nice of him. Come to think of it, all the guard type people were very polite and informed, no matter what branch of the military they were part of. It was pleasant to deal with them and I wish all crowd minders were as good.

The airshow itself rocked. I had never been to one and neither had the Boy. Huge, noisy machines going very fast and doing all sorts of neat stuff. Lots of teenage boy testosterone flowing in both of us. OOOOhhhh, look'it. I'll take one of each, please. And two of the nifty little prop plane that could stall in a vertical climb, tumble down a few hundred feet and pull itself out of the fall at 50 feet above the ground and go on to do loop-dee-loos as it climbed again. Just put them all in the back yard. Now I remember why I applied to the armed services at the end of highschool.
