We have the best neighbors living above us. When we got home from the farm last night, it was incredibly windy. The neighbors had moved all my plants off of the porch railing onto the floor. They had also tried to prop up by big tomatoe plant, which they call the tree, with bricks but it had still blown over. These are the same people who watered my plants at least two weeks total this summer while I was out enjoying myself on vacation, then refused to accept any of the fruit. You don't expect to have people like that living above you when you rent an apartment. Cool neighbors make life so much better. I should make them cookies or something.

At the farm, we just played with Sage in the riding ring. Boy was trying to lunge him and having problems. Normally Sage really likes the Boy and works better for him than he does for me. Last night, Sage kept turning around, ignoring Boy's command to continue in the "right" direction. Boy could barely get 2 laps out of him before Sage would run at him and switch directions.

I took over after a bit. When he tried that trick with me, I took after him with the lunge whip, poking him in the shoulder to keep him from coming at me. He was not happy and kept bucking and snorting after each poke...but he went in the direction I wanted him to go and he wasn't pulling on the line or trying to run me down. I just made him continue in "my" direction until he settled down and got to work. Then I let him switch. I don't mind bucking and snorting on the lunge but I hate a horse that will run into the circle.

Afterwards, we made over him with the brushes and stuff. He kept trying to grab the one brush I had and chew on it. I figured if he was that mouthy today, I'd go get a bit and see how it went. Not a problem. I grabbed a rubberized bit and gave it to him (no headstall or anything, just the bit). He chewed on it for a good 10 minutes while I putzed about. He looked like a puppy given a new toy. When I took it away from him, he kept trying to grab it back. I even got him to let me put it the whole way in and hold it there for a few minutes. It probably helped that the rubber coating on the bit is flavored like apples. Saturday, I'm hooking up a headstall and putting it on him. I would love to be able to ride this horse, though I think the Boy will probably get to first.

Apple flavored bit! *blown away by the technology*

sorry... I get impressionable at this time o' night...
I wonder if my sister knows about that sort of thing? Not that I
expect her to want to raise more kids any time soon.

Good neighbors are good. That's almost as good as living in a
neighborhood. Gawd, this time of year makes me want to put down
roots somewhere with a garage... and few enough people that you can
tell exactly who's blasting their Indian rap music...
We have to get co-workers (well, my co-workers) to take care of
critters and plants... it's not quite the same as having neighbors...
