Tira went back to the vet's yesterday and in the end, he said "its a cyst filled with urine on one of her kidneys. How 'bout we just drain it once a month and not worry about it, uh?"

Ummm, I don't think so!

Aren't you worried that there is a cyst on her kidney, which could rupture and spill junk all through her belly? Why can't you remove it when you told me its only on the edge and isn't affecting the kidney itself? Even if it was affecting the ENTIRE kidney, she has two of them, like every mammal, and only needs one. What's the problem here?

Everything I've read says that such a cyst should be removed before it gets a chance to rupture. Removed, not drained indefinitely. What happens if it starts filling up quicker? I'll just have to make more appointments to drain it? Oh, that's right, you can't do operations in your clinic. You would have to send me to Tufts or Angell to have it removed, whereas you can drain it right here, no problem. Why the hell do you think I'm willing to lay out $200 a pop for the next 4 - 7 YEARS when this is fixable?

*sigh*
I get the feeling that this vet is seeing me through money colored lenses. Time to find a new vet. And to try to get all of the x-rays and ultrasounds off of the old vet to give to the new one so I don't have to pay for it all again. Normally I don't worry about money but these vet bills are really beginning to hurt.
