Saturday was spent doing art. Unfortunately, the gods of masking fluids do not like me and I throughly messed up my latest watercolor monstrosity but, hey, learning experience. I still have the initial sketches, I think I'll lay it out again and try a second time.

Simon and Ahn came over for dinner on their way to a dance club. Normally, I would have tagged along but they were going to a club I distinctly don't like. Ah, well.

Sunday was wonderful. 60 degrees and horses. Boy didn't feel like going and stayed home to woodwork. There were a bunch of people there but most of them were afraid to leave the riding ring. I had to convince one of the other leasers to go trail riding with me. The woman in question was only willing to ride Majic out on the trails, which put me on one of the youngsters. I already knew what Apache was like out there, so I took Altisa instead.

She's only carried a rider about 5 times in her life but she is so incredibly unflappable. I had no trouble saddling her, getting the bit in (Apache is a 1/2 hour battle to get bitted) or getting on her. I didn't even need someone to hold her at the mounting block, she just stood there with the "whatever" look on her face.

I had to spend about 30 minutes in the ring teaching her stop, go, turn and then off we went. Note to self, brakes on this horse are very good. Gas peddle needs work though and she has no idea how to carry herself with a rider at a trot. Ended up riding out in the field for about an hour while I showed the other leaser where all the trail heads were and the short cuts and stuff. Altisa was thrilled by the whole experience. Ears up, spring in her step, looking everywhere, prancing around at the trot and yet she was completely controllable the entire time. The leaser was having a harder time with Majic.

Came back to the farm and found out there had been betting going on amoung the other riders on whether or not I would get thrown off, and if so, whether I could keep Altisa from running off. No one bet that I would come riding back in without ever leaving the saddle except for the barn owner.

Apparently taking untrained 3 year olds out trail riding == instant disaster to some people.

Tonight, bellydancing
tomorrow, volleyball

Weather in the mid 60's today.
Life is good.
