breakups always hurt
Aug. 20th, 2003 10:45 amNo, don't worry, nothing's wrong between the Boy and I.
I just deleted my Elfwood account, though. Its something I've been a part of since the fall of 1996. Back then, it was this little online fantasy gallery with a great community. Not a lot of skill but tons of heart and personality. Now its a proverbial den of weasels. Rules as to what is and is not fantasy have become increasingly nitpicky and choking. A winged humanoid wearing a modern gown is NOT fantasy because of the modern clothing. Egyptian art is not fantasy because its based on historical fact. Dragons on a sky scraper is not fantasy because it has a modern building. A woman in a ren faire costume is not fantasy because of the historical clothing. The list goes on an on.
A moderation system was instituted to enforce those rules but the mods pick and choose which ones to enforce and on whom. Violations appear every day and some of them end up getting the honor of Mod's Choice. The last straw for me was when the head moderator loudly and longly ranted about people trying to "slip" bourder line pictures into their fantasy galleries and resubmitting rejected pictures in hopes of getting a more lenient mod. Someone pointed out that the reason people do that is because so many of the rules are ignored by the mods. Violations are everywhere, including in the mods' galleries. She objected and stated that there were no rules violations in any of the mods' galleries. Guess what was in her "fantasy" gallery. A rendition of prehistoric art, a caveman being chased by a buffalo. Someone had the ill manners to link that picture into the rant and call her on it. All hell broke loose. It got so loud that the head of Elfwood noticed and told the "someone" basically to shut up and sit down, the head mod's gallery was fine with him. When that someone refused, the head of Elfwood removed his gallery. One can only assume the purpose was to set an example to the rest of us little peons as to what happens to troublemakers.
Well, this troublemaker is taking her support elsewhere. There's only so much hypocrisy a person can be expected to take.

I refuse to be a part of something so hypocritical. I have better places to be, and better people to meet. I'll miss my friends, though...
