Busy busy busy
Sep. 15th, 2003 09:17 amWow, jammed packed weekend.
Friday night I did the linework for the mermaid. Saturday morning, I laid it out and started painting it. Saturday afternoon, I laid it out again, this time on watercolor paper. Saturday evening we cooked Sheperd's Pie and had Simon and Ahn over for dinner. Saturday night, off to Margo's surprise birthday party. Sunday morning, sometime around 3:30, finally got home and went to bed.
Sunday, got up around 10, went up to the barn. Rode horses until around 2:30. We found an entrance into the Groton trail network and went exploring. The Boy rode Tisa, I took Magic and Kimberly was on Sage. Unfortunatly, we needed to cross a small stream to get to the trails. Tisa and Magic, no problem. Sage, well, you remember last time. After about 20 minutes of me pulling and Kimberly pushing, we got him across the stream. Funny how on the way back he had no problems with it. Insert lots of riding here.
Sunday afternoon, relaxing. I watched the extended Fellowship of the Rings again and painted. I'm actually very happy with how the mermaid is turning out. Most of the background is finished now. I just have some work on the rock to do, then I can remove the masking fluid on her and start the fun stuff. I'm not looking forward to doing the tail, though. I mean, I'm anal about my figures and what's the use of doing a mermaid if you aren't going to put a kick ass tail on her?
While waiting for the latest layer of paint to dry, I laid out my next painting. Here's a fairly rough version of the line work.
The final version of the line work is much nicer, complete with mask and her emerging from the trunk of the tree and the tree growing up over her arms and back. I don't know how I ever did any painting before photoshop. Now I can draw the roughs whatever size I'm comfortable with and then shrink or enlarge it to my actual canvas size. Its wonderful.

Date: 2003-09-15 07:44 pm (UTC)Man, all we did all weekend was cleaning, and some shopping, and a couple of hours of baby shower at the end :-P (And of course you don't sit down much when you're *throwing* a party, either...)
