Expensive Saturday
Oct. 27th, 2003 10:07 amExpense #1 - got caught speeding on the little itty bitty backroads up in Dunstable. I guess the local police weren't making quota or something because there were 4 people pulled over in a stretch of under 2 miles. I've never seen a cop on that road in the last 3 years. Can't really contest it cause, um, I WAS speeding. Hell, I was pretty close to going twice the speed limit. Guess I can kiss that $100 goodby.
Expense #2 - sick pony. Got up to the barn on Saturday, found out Tisa had an infection in her mouth that the barn owner hadn't noticed. Her face was all puffed out on the one side and she had a big swollen knot under her jaw and she was drooling everywhere. Don't know how Carol missed that, especially with the drool.
Poor girl couldn't even eat an apple. Nothing is quite as pathetic as giving a horse a small bit of apple, watching them roll it around their mouth trying to find a way to bite it that didn't hurt, then giving up and spitting it out and looking at it mournfully with their lower lip quivering. My pony has definitely mastered the kicked puppy look. Called the vet, vet came out, said she'd gotten something jammed into her gums that had gotten infected. $120 dollars later and I have a BIG bag of antibiotics and a tub of horse painkiller so she could eat again. Went back up on Sunday. She was already doing much better. The knot was going down and she was able to chew on apples and carrots with minimum drool. Her face was still swelled up though and she looks kinda funny, since the swelling pushes her nostrils all cock-eyed. Crocked horse, heh.
Damn, sometime between waking up and getting out of the shower, the mother of all back pain settled in a knot in my mid-right back. I can't bend over, I can't breath deeply, stretching doesn't seem to do anything and getting dressed was agony. Lets not talk about the act of sitting down or getting back up. Thank god my office chair has wheels...I'm just going to roll around today. Not the ideal start to the week. Advil has kicked in but I think I'm gonna need a bigger boat.
