scoot little blenny, scoot
Nov. 10th, 2003 09:31 amMy scooter blenny is feeling better. He's even scooting around again. We picked up some adult live brine shrimp for him and that seems to have done the trick. Unfortunately, the other fish in the tank really like live brine shrimp too, so you have to stand guard over the blenny or else they steal all of his shrimp before he gets a chance to eat them. Slow blenny. I'm hoping he speeds up a little as he gets more of his strength back.
In other news, the Boy and I bought an exercise bike. Its one of those recumbent(sp?) bikes...you know, you sit upright on it instead of in bike riding position. This means I can read while biking without too much trouble. I noticed it does slow my reading down, though. We also set it up in the living room with a good view of the TV. Between being able to read and being able to watch TV while exercising, I'm hoping I'll be able to stick with it.
Farm on Sunday was a hit and a miss. Hit was with George.
pancua and I worked ground driving him. Ground driving is the basic training for pulling a sleigh or a cart. We started with me behind him with the reins and Katy up at his head giving him commands and emotional support (no, the person behind you is not chasing you, the tree is not going to eat you, what a good boy). We slowly switched over until Katy was back with me at the end of the lines and George was up front all on his lonesome. It worked pretty well except everytime I asked him to do something, it involved convincing him NOT to go find Katy first.
Miss was with Tisa. The Boy was supposed to have a lesson on her and it just didn't work out. Tisa watched me fussing with George and ignoring her and wasn't very happy about it. Then the Boy no more than got her tacked up and started in the ring than all the other horses in the ring left and she was not permitted to go with them. Being ignored by me and being stuck in the ring when everyone else got to go out to the field and play made her more pissy than I've ever seen her before. She ended up throwing a rearing fit on the Boy and that's when they called the lesson to an end. I got on her and rode her through the pissiness (including some bucking) and she was happier, if still not happy. Katy had wanted to hop on her earlier but after the bucking fit, we decided that was a bad idea. We're thinking she's much closer to her due date than the vet said and I think it might be time to stop riding her until after she has the foal.
Tomorrow when we go up, I think I'm going to make over Tisa most of the time. Maybe teach her to ground drive or something. Katy, think you can lunge and/or ground drive George while I work with Tisa, then we'll tack him up in the western gear and see how he does?

I can also say that having an exercise bike near the TV is good for keeping it from getting boring. It's not so easy to read on ours, as it's not the reclined type* - but on the other hand, you can play video games from it (an option that Todd often uses).
* = jealous. :-P :-)
