Many of the items on this list, especially those referring to vocanulary and pronunciation, are specific to the Western Pennsylvania/Eastern Ohio area. Slippy, crick, jagger bush, gumband? Not in Philly! And red up? Not even in Pittsburgh; the verb is redd.

Have to disagree. I grew up in central PA and we used all four of those words. Maybe its Philly that doesn't fit with the rest...?

As for red vs. redd, I've never seen it spelled out before, I've only ever heard it. Your guess is as good as mine.

Of course, the noun is "vocabulary".

red, redd, it's the same word. It's not like there's an official spelling of it.

It's definitely true that Philly doesn't have most of these things. Philly's close enough to NY and NJ that they get enough exposure to folks.

This does seem a bit Pittsburgh-centric (I don't really expect people from Philly to have in-depth knowledge of Pgh's Three Rivers, and I'm pretty sure the whole Cleveland-hating thing is specific to the 'Burgh as well), and a couple of them, I have to say, I've never heard used in the entire first 22 years of my life that I spent in Pittsburgh ("The Mon", sure, but I've never heard anyone shorten the other two rivers :P ). Also, it's generally more of a "Jahn Iggle" rather than "Jine Iggle" ;)
At least they threw in one Philly-centric one - Pittsburghers seem to realize there's a difference between a regular cheesesteak sandwich and a "Philly Cheesesteak" anyways.

No it isn't, it's Geagle, as in "Jee-gal." :)

Actually, the only people I've ever heard say *shudder* "Jee-gal" have been CMU students, or friends thereof. Growing up in Pittsburgh, I always heard people say, "Jahn Iggle" - which is why the video rental portions of the stores at least used to be called "Iggle Video" ;)
"Jee-gal" is not Pittsburghese in the least - it uses the long "e" sound instead of replacing it with a the short "i" sound, as Pittsburghese does (Steel becomes Still, for example).
Trust me, I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, I know what proper Pittsburghese sounds like ;)

Man. Suddenly I have an urge to go ride an incline to get to an Isaly's to go get me some chip-chopped ham n'at. Unfortunately, I'm about 2500 miles to far away to do that, and Isaly's folded a long time ago :(

I stand (well, sit) corrected. Although the other version I've heard is "Jiggle," which holds to your short "i" pittsburghese claim, so perhaps I'm not too far off. :)

Ditto on all of that. Jiggle and Jeagle are CMU bastardizations.

I'd do the meme, but it would be redundant... ;-)

i'm a pennsylvanian, and the only place i've heard most of these is since i've lived in pittsburgh... not anywhere near philly, reading, or lancaster (where, i might add "paradise" and "intercourse" are towns a few miles apart.)
